About Us
Today
Crediton Milling is proud to be one of the few remaining family owned and run independent feed mills in the Westcountry. Today we strive to continue improving by delivering better efficiency to our customers, both large and small.
Today’s Mill has undergone many changes as part of our commitment to supporting our customers in the South West which include merchants, large farms and the smaller producer. In the last three years much of the machinery has been replaced. Efficiency has been improved by recent investments in an additional manufacturing line, an improved blending facility and a new bag packaging plant.
This investment is very important to the philosophy behind Crediton Milling. We believe that it is of the utmost importance to the future of our livestock farmers that we and other mills remain independent - feed price being controlled by a few would not be good news for our farmer customers.
History
The “Old White Flour Mill”
The “Old White Flour Mill” at Crediton served the needs of the neighbourhood grinding flour for bread and continued to do so until the development of sea power brought in cheap wheat from abroad. Large mills were then erected in our main ports and gradually the smaller country mills went into decline. Some survive still as manufacturers of biscuit flour, some became derelict and others were converted into provender mills to serve the agricultural community.
In 1964 Crediton Milling was founded to supply animal feed to local farmers. The business expanded through the 1960/70’s until a major fire in 1988 saw the total destruction of the original mill building. The commitment of loyal staff and customers for over twenty years instigated the positive decision to proceed with rebuilding and equipping a new mill.
